Online Dating: How Old Is Too Old?
Friday

There seems to be a preconception of the dating world today, by both the old and young alike, that dating is only for those below the age of forty or so. Of course, the figure alters from person to person but you get the idea! Online dating especially is viewed as a young person's thing, but is it really? Is online dating acceptable for people of any age or is there a point at which old becomes too old?

The short and sweet answer is no. At no age are you too old to date. If you do not want to date when you hit a certain age than that is totally your choice, but you should not let age put you off if you still want to date. Online dating is a wonderful thing in that it has a whole host of benefits for you no matter how old you are. It can open up the whole world to you, literally.

Some of the reasons outlined below draw on the benefits online dating to explain just why you are never too old to date:

  • Love can blossom at any age – Love does not discriminate, whether you are old or young. If you meet someone that you have that spark with then age does not matter at all. This is why you are never too old to use online dating. The heart and soul are separate to the head. It does not matter whether you believe that you are too old or not, your heart will contradict your head if you meet that special someone.
  • You can meet like-minded people however old you are – Your interests and hobbies can be shared by anyone, and it is this that gives you something to talk about. To date someone successfully, you have to have something to talk about and online dating can help you to sort out the people that you do have things in common with from those you do not. As a result, you can use online dating to save time, which is essential as you get older.
  • Dating can also provide companionship and friendship – So maybe you do not want to date. If you were deeply in love and lost that person then this would be understandable, but seniors use online dating services all the time to find friendship and companionship rather than love. You can meet new friends and chat until your heart is content. You can find whatever you want online so make the most of the services at your disposal.
  • If you can master technology, you can do anything you like irrespective of age – No further explanation needed! If you can master the Internet, you can do anything you put your mind to, including online dating.

WealthyChats.com is great place to meet like-minded people - and is primarily for United states and canada dating singles. It also offers free online dating blog, which is fun way to meet new people.

Internet dating dangers

SHREVEPORT, LA (KSLA) - Internet dating websites have become a popular way to find companionship, but for one Shreveport women, a cyber quest for Mr. Right turned into a nightmare.

A few years ago a women we'll call Jennifer signed on to several different internet dating sites to meet men. Recently she found someone who sparked her interest.

"He seemed like a pretty decent guy, a little eager to get involved," Jennifer said.

Having experience with online dating, Jennifer thought she was covering all her bases when she decided to meet him.

She said she "always asks all the questions of 'Do you have children? What do you do for work?'"

When Jennifer finally met up with her internet beau in public, she realized she had no idea what she was getting herself in to.

"(I) found out, there was someone there from his past that called him from a different name," she said.

After doing a little research, his name popped up somewhere Jennifer never expected, on a sex offender registry.

"I totally felt like I had been conned and from what I found on the sex offender site, it was with children," said Jennifer.

William Tuggle with the Louisiana State Probation and Patrol Office coordinates all the sex offenders for Caddo and Bossier Parishes. He says anything and everything that deals with sex offenders goes through him. Tuggle says it's common for sex offenders to use online dating sites.

"They do absolutely no background checks whatsoever," he said.

A recent study revealed that most online daters assume that internet dating sites do criminal screenings on their clients, but many of them don't.

Steve Hall with the FBI says online dating may be an easy but dangerous place to find companionship. "There are a lot of things people can hide on these anonymous websites," Hall says.

Tuggle says, "This is a very serious thing when you meet someone online and you have no idea who they are.  When you are on these sites, the only person you can trust is yourself. You can't trust these websites to do background checks."

Some dating sites do criminal background checks, but by changing one digit in a social security number, or adding one letter to a name, the very worse imaginable sex offenders can go undetected.

Jennifer says the way he spelled his name was different from what it was on the sex offender registry.

She still visits her favorite online dating sites but now she is more cautious.

"It's the old cliché of buyer beware, well web searcher beware," she says.

Jennifer learned the hard way about the right questions to ask when she meets someone new online, questions she hopes you will remember to ask as well.

"Are you wanted, have you been convicted, have you been in jail,"

And according to Tuggle, "It could possibly save your life."

Six Dating Behaviors That Scare Single Men Away

You're dating a guy, and it's the crucial first few weeks. You really like this guy, and you're wondering what you can do (or avoid doing) to keep this relationship going and not scare him away.

The truth is there are certain things that women can do that will scare men away. Don't sabotage a potentially great relationship that could have gone somewhere by scaring a man off right at the beginning.
Here are six dating behaviors guaranteed to scare men off that all women should avoid:

1. Trash-talking your ex. Don't talk negatively about an ex-boyfriend in front of a guy you're dating. I don't care if you're on your first date or on your 15th date with a guy, don't ever trash-talk your ex. Your ex is somebody you dated, invited into your life, and with whom you spent a lot of time. So don't talk negatively about your ex in any way, because what a guy thinks when you do this is that if he ever becomes your ex that you're going to trash-talk him the same way. So, when a man asks you about your ex, you can politely say, "We are no longer together. It was a great relationship while it lasted, and I learned a lot." That's it.

2. Paranoia Runs Rampant. Here you are dating a man you really like, and the first couple of weeks are going well. Then, that first boys' night out happens. In the beginning, you send him a text that says, "Have a great time tonight!" As the night progresses, however, seeds of doubt start forming in your mind about what he's doing, and you start to think "Is he cheating on me? Is he flirting with other women? Where is he right now?" So then, you lob another text in to him asking "What's going on? What are you doing right now?" Even though he tells you he's just hanging out with his friends, you proceed to make a major blunder:

"You start checking up on him with continuous texts throughout the night. This paranoia will push a man away."

You start checking up on him with continuous texts throughout the night. This paranoia will push a man away. So when you are dating a man and he's out with his friends, respect his "guy time" -- it will make you the cool woman he's always wanted to find.

3. Trash-talking other women. A huge mistake many women make is trash-talking other women in front of the man they're dating. For example, you are out with him when a woman walks by wearing a skimpy short skirt. You say, "Look how promiscuous that woman looks! I can't believe she is going around in public like that!" What you are doing when you make comments like this to a guy you're dating is telling him that you're not confident in the way you look. It tells him that you don't love who you are and haven't embraced your own body. You are planting a seed of doubt in him, causing him to wonder if he he should date someone else who is more confident (and tolerant). Don't trash-talk other women. It makes you look really insecure.

4. Fishing for compliments. This is something that can drive a man crazy. Here is a typical scenario: The guy you're dating looks at you and says, "You really look beautiful tonight!" Ten minutes later, you look at him and ask, "How do I look tonight?" Stop fishing for compliments. Real compliments come from the heart. Allow us to compliment you when we really mean it. If we don't give a compliment at the exact moment you desire it, just accept it and be OK with that.

5. Clingy and possessive. You don't need to do everything together. You're still getting to know him. If there are things he likes to do that simply don't interest you, be cool with it. You don't have to be joined at the hip. If you are going to a cocktail party together, you don't have to be next to him at every moment. If you see him speaking with some woman at the party, do not immediately run over and start grabbing his hand and giving him a big hug -- and certainly don't do this all night long. You are being clingy and possessive when you do this.

6. Pushing friends on him. Avoid pushing friends on us too soon. Example: A woman will hang out with a guy on the first or second date and say to him, "You have to meet my friends Jenna and Amy. You also have to meet my friends Phil and Anne; they're such a great couple, and you'll love them!" A man hears this and thinks, "I don't even know you yet. Can I get to know you for a month or two before I have to go meet all of your friends and be put on display as 'the boyfriend?'" We don't want to be "the boyfriend" right away. It's too much pressure. We want to get to know you slowly and learn what you're all about. Believe me, once we get to know you -- and like you -- we will be more willing to get to know all of your friends.

Following these tips will help you get past the first month of a new relationship with a man and avoid some of the major pitfalls that can end a new relationship before it even starts. Be the confident woman you really are so we have a chance to embrace you. Don't scare us off before we have a chance to get to know you!

Ask Amy: Web Site Helps Bust Dating Scams

HOUSTON -- With hundreds of social networking sites online, the Internet has become a virtual dating scene where singles meet and fall in love.

But your Mr. Right may be looking for more than romance. He may only be interested in your money.

Investigative reporter Amy Davis discovered a Web site growing in popularity that can help you distinguish a true Casanova from a con artist.

"A couple of friends told me about the sites that they had been doing and that they were having fun, and I was thinking, 'Well, why not?'" said a woman who did not want to be identified.

She told Local 2 that she did nothing wrong. Her only crime was being too trusting.

She met a man on a singles site who sent her pictures, supposedly of himself. After weeks of exchanging e-mails and even phone calls from London, the man then mailed her money orders and asked her to wire him the cash.

"When I saw that, I was like, 'Oh, my goodness. These are bogus. This is a scam,'" she said.

And it is not a new scam, according to the federal law enforcement agencies. The FBI has warned of romance fraud online, and now other private groups are warning trusting people, too.

Romancescams.org encourages people to post pictures of others who supposedly scammed them.

We found an identical picture of the one e-mailed to the woman in our story. It turns out that the man in the picture is not her love interest.

There are hundreds of pictures of people who are actually victims themselves.

Here's how it works -- the pictures were nabbed off the Internet by scammers who claim the pictures are of them.

Since they have no intention of ever meeting face to face, you may as well be talking to Bozo the Clown.

Romancescams.org has also posted a quiz on its site with questions such as "Have you been on a social or dating networking site within the past six months?" "Does the person you met claim to be from the U.S., but is working overseas?"

If you answer yes to a majority of the questions, it's likely that you are involved in a romance scam.

You'll also find links for how to report these scams to the appropriate law enforcement agency.

World’s Most Expensive Places to Have Sex
Thursday

bar-chart-final-2-copy.jpg
+ ENLARGE (because size matters)

For obvious reasons you can't recycle a condom, but have you ever wondered which countries "tax" sex the most?

Well… Environmental Graffiti has decided to create a detailed graphical diagram, complete with wallpaper download for your viewing pleasure. The data, which gives the average condom price around the world has been compiled from UK price comparison site pricerunner and a blogger from an interesting little site called condomunity. We thought we'd go one step further however, and create a graphic representation of the findings - I think you'll agree the graph makes for 'interesting' viewing.

When looking at it, please don't deduce that bar heights are correlated to penis size (that's just offensive).

Shanghai came out the cheapest with an average price of just $4.50 (£2.25), whilst Ireland was the country where sex costs the most (!) at almost $18 (£9) on average for a pack – (perhaps due to the hostility of the Catholic Church towards contraception?). Prices within the US showed a high amount of variation, from $9.50 (£4.75) in Houston to nearly $15 (£7.50) in New York - feel free to extrapolate from that what you wish…

Condoms can't be recycled and as such may be considered damaging to the environment. And the solution offered for most things that either cannot be recycled or damage the environment? Tax. Petrol, plastic bags (soon), driving in central London, all cost at a premium. But putting a price on sex? Well that's just cheap…

Bynes Dating MacFarlane?

http://imgs.sfgate.com/blogs/images/sfgate/dailydish/2008/07/17/seth215x314.JPG"Hairspray" star Amanda Bynes has sparked rumors she is dating "Family Guy" creator Seth MacFarlane, after they were spotted enjoying a night out together in Los Angeles.

The TV writer, who split from his girlfriend Eliza Dushku earlier this year, was reportedly seen embracing the 22-year-old actress at an L.A. party, and subsequently leaving with her.

A source tells the New York Daily News, "They came separately but when she found Seth in the crowd, they huddled up and chatted. She giggled a lot.

According to E!, Amanda Bynes is also found at the wealthy men dating site wealthychats.com with a dating profile. She didn't disclose her photos to all users but just a few members there. But she is still recognized by one of her fans.

"He walked out probably five steps in front of her but, clearly, they were leaving together."

MacFarlane recently became the highest-paid series creator in TV, signing a $100 million deal with 20th Century Fox.
